Edges Comparison.
Paragraph 1:
Both of these images each have separate qualities of their own, making them unique in their own ways. The "Sick of goodby's" photograph is a landscape image containing various shadows that make very sharp but blurred edges. The shadows contribute to the tone of the photo; black and white making the setting quite dark and murky. It is laid out in an unusual way; there are objects located randomly around, however I believe there could be a story behind it. The "Red #1" photograph is a portrait setting featuring a sculpture consisting of numerous tropical objects stacked irregularly upon one another. This photo has a bright, fluorescent colour scheme to it, which gives it a mood of happiness. Also, the vibrant colours stand out against the the background just behind it. The composition is arranged in a very disorganised way, making it look busy, and it looks as if it will topple over but the camera has managed to capture the moment in time. The edges are very refined which emphasises the focus of the image.
Paragraph 2:
The main similarities of both of these images are that they are both structured in unusual ways, and they both have many edges to make them more interesting. They both share some of the same key formal elements such as line shape. However there are many more differences than similarities between these two images. The main one is how the space is presented. In "Sick of goodby's", there isn't much space considering there are lots of objects standing broadly making there be not much space, whereas in "Red #1", the main feature is presented in the centre, with remaining space around it. Another difference is that the focus contrasts. Robert Frank's photo has an indistinct view, maybe from the cause of the lighting of the photo. However Lorenzo Vitturi's photo has a clear focus making it very clearly shown. Also, the colours differ, one is dark, black and white, and the other is full of bright colours. The arm featured at the top of the image strikes me the most, as it is very unusual and you wouldn't see it in many other photos out there. And the thing that strikes me the most about the other photo is the background, I think there could be a link to the ocean from the impression that the blue background gives.
Paragraph 3:
There are many different edges included in both of these photos; each of them are different in their own ways. there are sharp, curved, blurry etc edges that link to photography itself because they provide structure and shape that add to the images. If I were to have access to talk to these artists, I would ask the following: What struck you the most to make you capture these photos? Is there a story behind each of these, if so, what are they about?
Paragraph 4:
I would give the first photo a title of 'Fear', as the setting is very dull and dark, as if something bad is going to happen. If I were to experience being in this photo, I would feel quite uneasy, and I would want to escape. It would be very surreal and sinister. I would give the other photo a title of 'Paradise' because it gives us a reference of somewhere relaxing of happy.
